What does it actually do?

EEC 6-in-1 is a fuel borne catalyst formulation that helps Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) to regenerate by reducing the natural combustion temperature required to burn off the trapped particulate matter (unburnt carbon, engine oil debris and soot) by up to 150c.

EEC 6-in-1 also cleanses all of the fuel and emissions system of carbon deposits which leads to improved MPG and engine performance, reduces smoke, lowers emissions, cleans and lubricates.

Comparative investigations of different fuel-borne catalysts

Test Schedule

A test procedure has been set up which consists of two steps. The first one was the loading of the particulate trap and the second was the regeneration of the filter. Two tests were carried out for each additive at various levels of PPM.

Loading cycle

During the whole loading cycle the engine speed and engine load have been kept constant while the exhaust gas was at about 250C in front of the particulate trap.

Regeneration Cycle

For this Cycle the engine speed has been kept constant again whereas the engine load has been raised step by step. The duration of each step was 15 mins. The temperature of the exhaust gas in front of the trap increased simultaneously by about 25C.

The Results

  • By using 6 in 1 with concentrations of 3 and 5ppm a significant regeneration of the particulate trap only starts above 450C.
  • The observed regeneration rate at this temperature is very fast compared to other catalysts.
  • For the fuel-borne catalyst 6 in 1 a distinct catalytic activity below a temperature of 450C only occurs for the measured concentrations of 10 ppm. For a concentration of 10 ppm 6 in 1 shows a comparable behaviour as Eolys with 10 ppm and CDT-Pt/Ce with 10ppm.
    Above a temperature of about 350C considerable regeneration rates could be observed.
  • Summarising the results it could be concluded that a concentration of FBC 6 in 1 of 3 and 5 ppm is too low for a reliable trap regeneration at temperatures below 450C.
  • The highest temperature for balance point was found for 6 in 1 3 ppm.
  • A complete regeneration (PM burn rate: 100%) was reached for Eolys 10and 25 ppm, 6 in 1 10 ppm and CDT 10 ppm.
  • The highest regeneration rate (8mbar/min) was found for 6 in 1 10ppm at 470C.
